Calling all book-lovers, here's your chance to celebrate Valentine's Day with a fun group of kindred spirits in support of International Book Giving Day http://bookgivingday.com/.

The Pink Cow, a long-time supporter of the arts, including the literary community, is joining with Beers for Books and hosting the Tokyo version of a worldwide celebration of the joy of sharing books with others.  The Pink Cow is a terrific Cal-Mex restaurant with great food so please also enjoy a great Pink Cow dinner, ala carte menu available to order at the bar. For those of you new to Beers for Books, the concept is simple: For every drink you have 100 yen will be donated to Room to Read and that buys a treasured book for children via Room to Read's local-language Book Publish Program.
 
Room to Read is an amazing NPO whose mission is to provide quality educational opportunities to children in developing countries with the goal of empowering kids via literacy. Room to Read has projects in 10 countries in Asia and Africa including Nepal, Cambodia, Zambia, etc. For more details see www.roomtoread.org or in Japanese www.roomtoread.jp.
 
International Book Giving day was launched in 2012 in Minnesota by a mother and aspiring librarian, Amy Broadmoore, who wanted to encourage her young son to share his love of books with others.  They realized how many children worldwide went without books and how much joy it brings to both the giver and the recipient of a book.  This year they plan to have events around the world to promote giving books as a gesture of kindness.
