Join current students, alumni, and friends of the Graduate School of International Relations and Pacific Studies (IR/PS) at UC San Diego for a Beers for Books celebration to kick of Fall Quarter 2010! This event will be immediately following IRPS' Fall Connections, so current students will get to mix and mingle some more with new and old friends.
The festivities will take place at the recently opened Home Plate Cafe in the RIMAC Center. Home Plate has a great selection of craft beers on tap and plenty of large screen TV's so you can watch the Padres vs. Giants game while making lots of books for kids.
For those of you new to Beers for Books, the concept is simple: For every drink you have, $1.00 will be donated to Room to Read and that buys a treasured book for children via Room to Read.
Room to Read is an amazing NPO whose mission is to provide quality educational opportunities to children in developing countries with the goal of empowering kids via literacy and gender equality in education. Room to Read has projects in 9 countries in Asia and Africa including Nepal, Cambodia, Zambia, etc. For more details see www.roomtoread.org.
Come on out for a Thursday evening of fun at Home Plate all for a great cause. Feel free to pass the info on and to bring your friends. The event is open to the general publie as well. Hope to see you there!
