raffle idea

In New York, we've done much better with a raffle than we did with 10% of food and drinks.  Here's the idea: Craft beer is big now, and craft beer businesses are eager to promote themselves.  Find a bar that stocks many craft beers on tap and in bottles.  Request any Friday evening non-exclusively -- RtR guests will just mix in with regulars.  Request from the bar a gift certificate ($10, $50, $100, whatever) donated to the raffle prize.  Then, get a nearby microbrewery to donate to the raffle…See More

One Beer, One Book

Welcome to Beers for Books

A great way to raise money for Room to Read & something anyone can do anywhere!

Beers for Books is a really simple idea to raise money for childhood literacy in developing countries. Fun and generous people everywhere are having a blast with the idea while creating books for kids that have limited access to educational resources.

The basic idea of "B4B" is that you find a cool bar/restaurant in your neighborhood which agrees to donate $1 for every drink sold on a specific night, you invite all your friends (and they invite all their friends), and every $1 funds a high quality local language book for kids via Room to Read. Since February 2009 we've held events on 4 continents and 17 countries to raise funds for books for kids just by hanging out and having a good time. It's an easy way to do good and learn about the amazing work of Room to Read with fun people.

Results Update: Since starting in February '09, the Beers for Books concept has funded over 300,000 books and the pace is accelerating.  B4B is something that anyone can do anywhere, so we've got lots of room left to grow if you get involved.

THANK YOU to all the thousands of great people who have made this happen in so many ways--organizing, promoting, supporting, encouraging, and just making it all fun and simple.

Coming Up:  See the "Events" section below for details on upcoming B4B  events. Also, stay tuned for launches of B4B in Portland, Hamburg, Asheville and more... Check the events section for more details, tell all your fun friends, and come on out!

Are YOU ready to organize a B4B event? Check out the Organizer's Manual available in the "Tools" section of this website--you can do it--it is simple and fun.
